Most people, who run in a race, set a pace at which to move. They do this in order to maximize their energy and make best use of their lung capacity. They have a goal. They want to do well. They want to finish the race! And if there is a prize, their goal may be to win!
The "Pace" in the title of this post is speaking of a different kind of pace. One that exemplifies the "inward struggles" that we, as followers of Jesus Christ, might find ourselves having as we:
"press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 3:14 nkjv)
"Don't pace In This Race" are words that Holy Spirit spoke to me one day as I was asking God what to do in regards to something that I was going through.
I was really upset and had become "agitated" at what seemed like "a no answer situation" and feeling like something "had to happen". (Have you ever felt this way? Even though we know and have a relationship with God, there are times when circumstances can overwhelm us!)
Well, on this particular day, as I was talking (obviously not doing enough listening), I found myself walking back and forth, back and forth and He began to cause me to see that I was "pacing". (I know you see the picture.) As He showed me "my posture" was not what it needed to be, He began to settle me down. He then spoke to me the following words:
DON'T PACE---DON'T PACE
IN THIS RACE
WALK FIRMLY, SECURELY IN ME!
DON'T PACE---DON'T PACE
IN THIS RACE
WALK FIRMLY, SECURELY IN ME!
KEEP MOVING FORWARD
KEEP ME IN YOUR SIGHT
DO ONLY WHAT I TELL YOU TO DO
MOVE NEITHER TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT!
NOW IS THE TIME THE ENEMY
IS PLACING OBSTACLES UPON YOUR PATH
BUT YOU AND I, WE'LL WORK TOGETHER
REMOVE THEM WITH A BLAST!
BLASTS OF HALLELUJAH!
SHOUTS OF VICTORY!
WE'LL SCARE THE ENEMY SO BAD
HE'LL HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO FLEE!
AS FOR US,WE'LL KEEP MOVING FORWARD
SINGING A NEW SONG AS WE GO!
AND SOON WE'LL ARRIVE SAFELY HOME
I AM THE GOD OF ALL FLESH AND
I DECLARE IT SO!

We are in a race. We have a specific course to run, defined by our life in Jesus Christ and He alone "Is the Prize." He is running with us in this race. Every step of the way He guides us..takes us through..fights the enemy for us and with us! He establishes "The Pace of the Race and "pacing" is not an option!"
